Client Overview

In 2017, this family-owned grocery wholesaler and retailer headquartered in the South partnered with FitOn Health (formerly known as Peerfit) to launch a workplace wellness program. Today the company employs tens of thousands of employees across southeastern United States. It runs full-service wholesale distribution and operates hundreds of full-service retail stores. Its workforce includes corporate staff, distribution center teams, drivers and store associates. Many of them are hourly, desk-less employees who work varied shifts in many locations.

The company sees its employees as the cornerstone of its business and wanted to support their health and well-being. Traditional wellness perks like a local gym discount and gift cards weren’t driving the participation it wanted. The team needed a program employees would enjoy and come back to. It also had to work for a widely distributed workforce, from store associates on rotating shifts to drivers and warehouse teams who rarely sit at a desk. The goal was to give every employee convenient, flexible ways to stay active, wherever and whenever they work.

The company partnered with Peerfit (now FitOn Health) to give employees a wellness benefit built around choice, convenience and fun. It didn’t rely on a one-size-fits-all perk.

  • Fitness that fits any schedule. Employees can book classes at local studios and gyms near home or work, from boot camp to yoga. They can also use a library of digital fitness classes from anywhere, whether that’s before an early morning store shift, after a delivery route or on a lunch break.
  • Built for a distributed workforce. Corporate staff, distribution center teams, drivers and store associates in multiple states all get the same access. Nobody’s participation depends on living near one designated gym.
  • Challenges and accountability. FitOn challenges provide the opportunity for employees to participate and set individual goals.
  • A program that evolved with employees. As expectations shifted toward digital, the program grew from a studio-based model into a full digital and in-person experience.
